Two people arrested on suspicion of selling drugs: Nashua police

Two people were taken into custody in Nashua last Friday on suspicion of selling numerous banned substances, including heroin and cocaine, police officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Avery Morrow and Miguel Perez, 21 and 35-year-old residents, respectively, of 161 West Hollis St. were arrested after a team of law enforcement agents from Nashua and Hudson police department s raided an apartment on Friday last week.

La Simpatia Lounge & Grill, a former city bar that recently changed its name and is now operating under new ownership, has been indicted on a couple of felony charges for serving alcohol without a valid license.

A Hillsborough County Superior Court grand jury indicted two charges against the city bar, accusing the hostelry of serving alcohol to customers despite expiry of its license.

Speaking on the topic, Liquor Commission Chief Jim Wilson said, "They did not renew their license at the end of last September, and they continued to operate as though they were licensed."

Nashua Board of Education proposes 2.8% rise in fiscal 2017 school budget

The Board of Education’s recently proposed budget of $105,313,179 for the financial year of 2017 represents an increasing of 2.8 per cent over the current spending plan.

The proposed budget is roughly $94,000 more than the budget recommended by Superintendent Mark Conrad. It is also worth-mentioning here that Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess’ request for an increase of not more than 2 per cent.

The budget, which doesn’t include benefits and pension costs, also aims to allow recruitment of two dozen school employees. The benefits will likely add nearly $33 million to the bottom line.

A 24-year-old Nashua man was taken into custody and charged with a number of felonies after his girlfriend accused him of holding her against her will, slamming her head into a wall and stabbing her, police said.

Sheldon Grant was arrested on Tuesday this week, and charged with a total of four felonies, including kidnapping, and two misdemeanors.

An investigation is underway to probe the custodial death of an inmate who had successfully sued Hudson and Nashua in New Hampshire last year, authorities confirmed.

Jeffrey Pendleton, a 26-year-old homeless from Nashua, N.H., was taken into custody on misdemeanor marijuana charges. At around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, he was found unconscious in his cell at a Manchester jail. Medical staff tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at 3:19 p.m.

Nashua cab driver rescues 10 people from house fire

A Nashua cab driver is being credited with rescuing ten people, including five children, from a housing complex that caught fire on Sunday.

Frank Figueroa, a 52-year-old driver working with SK Taxi Inc., was on the move when he suddenly saw a building at 25 Vine St. at around 7:20 a.m. on fire. He notified the authorities and rushed inside the burning multi-family residential property to save the people inside.
