Manchester police bust suspected meth lab

A potential danger from an illegal explosive meth lab in the backyard of a Manchester home forced many people out of their homes Wednesday night, Fire Chief David Billings confirmed.

Billings said homes on Seaman Circle were evacuated due to their close proximity to the meth lab, while the fire department of the city was placed on standby as a precaution.

Police reached the site after receiving a tip about the suspected meth lab from area residents. After a search, officers found chemicals used to produce the illegal drug.

Employees at a New Hampshire facility of the trucking arm of logistics firm Con-way Inc voted against union representation on Thursday, defeating the Teamsters union by a vote of 29 to 15.

The result of the voting, conducted by the National Labor Relations Board at Con-way Freight's Manchester, New Hampshire-based facility, will have no effect on other locations of the company.

Con-way Freight President Greg Lehmkuhl said that the company was gratified that its Manchester employees defeated the Teamsters union, communicating their intent to remain union-free.

The elderly woman, who was attacked and bitten by a dog Monday afternoon on Normand Street, has no plans to take any legal action against the dog's owner.

Nellie Borun, 88, said she walking around her neighborhood when she was suddenly attacked by a boxer. The dog was on a leash, but the young girl who was walking it either let it go or lost control of the leash.

The attack left Borun with several bite wounds and bruises on her arms and a leg. A man named Glenn Fritzsche came to the rescue, and scared off the dog. He also gave the elderly woman a place to rest in his home.

A major water main break in Manchester last week flooded the streets and caused many large sinkholes, forcing nearby residents to evacuate their homes for the night.

The water main break, which measured 16-20 inches, last Thursday spilled more than one million gallons of water into the streets. The flooding displaced at least 20 people.

Authorities deployed School buses to help the evacuees keep warm, and the William Cashin Senior Center was opened as a temporary shelter for the evacuees.

New Hampshire voters who cast votes for their favorite candidates on Tuesday should think twice before sharing the images of their marked ballots via social media as a new state new prohibits such action.

Approved in June 2014, the new law prohibits voters from capturing digital images or photos of their marked ballots and sharing them through social-networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. Violation of the so-called 'ballot selfies' law attracts a fine of $1000.
