Academics unearth discarded plan that proposed L.A.-type freeway system for Manc

A new research has revealed that massive concrete motorways would have sailed over Manchester under a decades-old master plan that failed gain approval and never came to fruition.

In the 1960s, city planners had proposed a vast network of highways, modeled after Los Angeles' highway system. The proposed highways would have stretched out from the Mancunian Way, cutting through Hulme, Moss Side and Longsight, creating an inter- linking 'spiders web' of transportation infrastructure.

The plan, which was called SELNEC plan, was unearthed by a group of academics at Manchester University.

A 28-year-old Nashua man was taken into custody and charged with heroin possession on Monday after several people reported that a man driving a truck in the area had a needle in his hand.

After receiving several calls that a man with a needle in his hand was driving in the Amoskeag Rotary area, Officer Ryan Boynton located the truck in the area of Pine Street and Lake Avenue at around 4:20 p. m., half an hour after receiving the initial call.

The driver of the 2002 black GMC Sonoma, identified as John Lozeau of 21 Ferson St., Nashua, was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal.

A 33-year-old gangland banker who conspired with another man for laundering nearly £200,000 has finally been put behind the bars, authorities confirmed.

Osman Rashid waited for five years to admit that he was involved in a conspiracy with Nouman Tariq, a 39-year-old businessman from Rochdale, to launder money. Tariq was jailed in 2013.

Rashid and Tariq together ran a cross-pennine money laundering scheme, allowing drug gangs in Bradford and Liverpool to hide the origin of their sums of cash by laundering the money through supposedly legitimate businesses in Manchester.
