Amazon’s upcoming Concord facility expected to create 150-200 new jobs

Online retail giant Amazon's upcoming distribution center in Concord will create 150-200 new jobs starting January next year, Mayor Scott Padgett said.

Welcoming Amazon's new distribution center in the city, Padgett said the economy was getting better and things were happening at very fast rate. In September, Amazon announced that it would occupy 222,500-square-feet in a Silverman Group building at the Concord Airport Business Park.

Concord-Carlisle girls qualify for MIAA Division 2 North semifinals

The Concord-Carlisle girls' soccer team on Monday qualified for the MIAA Division 2 North semifinals after defeating rival Dracut 3-0 at Doug White Field.

Commenting on the No. 9-seeded girls' victory, Concord-Carlisle coach Peter Fischelis said that the team was better prepared for the match than any other game in the current season.

When asked for a comment on the team's performance, Fischelis said, "It was a gratifying win. We were better prepared for this game than any other game this season."

Concord residents will be able to ask questions and express their views on this year's applications for Community Preservation Act (CPA) at a public hearing meeting later this month.

The meeting will be held by the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) at 7:30 p. m. on November 24 in the city's Willard School Auditorium at 185 Powder Mill Road.

The upcoming public hearing is part of the committee's annual application review process that will be used in preparing its funding recommendations for the Annual Town Meeting.

Police seek public help to find driver involved in Concord crash

Concord police detectives have sought public help to locate the driver involved in a vehicle collision along Weddington Road last Saturday.

Police said John Cassidy of Raleigh, who was driving on Rock Hill Church Road at around 11:45 a. m., lost control of his motorcycle when he approached a curve onto Weddington Road.

After losing control of his motorcycle, the victim first slammed into a Chevrolet car, and then crashed into a utility pole on the side of the road. The crash caused serious injuries to 52-year-old Cassidy. He was immediately airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center.
