Concord picks new technology management vendor

The City Council of Concord recently chose a new technology management vendor and awarded it a $419,112 contract, with the option to extend the contract for up to four one-year terms.

Vacaville-based Axiom Tech, which counts the California High Speed Rail Authority and the state Department of Healthcare Services among its clientele, will be responsible for providing desktop installation, maintenance and IT support to the city.

Concord law enforcement authorities are urging residents not to leave their cars unlocked, after numerous thefts took place during the week of Christmas.

Police confirmed that three firearms, including two handguns and a shotgun, were stolen from unlocked cars parked on Greenwich and Mulberry streets.

Officers responded to a home at around 7 a. m., after a man reported that when he was leaving for work, he found that his glove box was open and two of his guns that he had kept in the car on the previous night while parking at 11:30 p. m. were stolen.

Thieves rob Concord Salvation Army of $4,000 worth of gifts

The Salvation Army in Concord is in "desperate mode" as thieves robbed the charity of more than $4,000 worth of toys and other gifts that it intended to distribute among the needy families.

The charity reported that unknown people stole all donations from the storage box in the parking lot of its Concord Corps Community Center at 3950 Clayton Road.

The robbery took place sometime either late last Thursday or early Friday morning, just days before the gifts were to be distributed.

A carjacking suspect was shot and killed by a Concord police officer at a shopping mall Wednesday night, city police spokesperson Lt. David Hughes confirmed on Thursday.

The incident started at 8:43 p. m. when Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies started chasing a stolen vehicle within the city limits.

The suspect driving the stolen vehicle ditched the vehicle at the Sun Valley Mall near Interstate Highway 680, and fled on foot. The mall was immediately placed on lockdown.

Concord may switch energy supplier

Concord City Council is considering switching from its current energy wholesaler Duke Energy to NTE Energy. The proposal fulfilling the city's energy requirement from energy startup NTE was presented by Electric Systems Director Bob Pate earlier this week.

Concord is among that many other cities that have been mulling alternative electricity supply options to start in 2019, after the end of their current power supply agreements with energy wholesaler Duke Energy.

Recount for various seats begin this Wednesday

Recounting for various Concord seats after the Nov. 4 midterm elections will start this Wednesday and run into next week, the New Hampshire Secretary of State's Office announced.

The District 7 seat, where Democratic incumbent Sen. Andrew Hosmer leads Republican Kathleen Lauer-Rago by 132 votes, is the state Senate seat that being recounted. Initial results show that there are 24 scattered write-in votes alongside many under-counted and over-counted votes.

The Mountain Lions beat Notre Dame College 51-14, scoring one more home win for the team's fans.
