Concord Mills to undergo major renovation project

In a bid to attract more customers, Concord, North Carolina-based shopping mall Concord mills is undergoing a major renovation project that will bring significant changes to its interior.

Simon Malls, the owner and operator of the shopping mall, said in a statement that the renovation project would start in May this year and wrap up sometime in early 2017. He added that the renovation aimed at creating a brighter, more appealing atmosphere inside the mall.

A massive fire left a Concord home in a condition of total loss Monday afternoon, but the building’s occupants were luckily able to escape without being hurt.

Concord fire officials said the fire was fully engaged when firefighters arrived on the scene at 865 Accent Avenue in the southeast part of the city.

Firefighters from Concord Fire & Life Safety and Coldwater Volunteer Fire Department had to struggle hard to contain the fire. After the aggressive blaze was contained, all that remained was the house’s brick façade.

BART won’t be running regular service from North Concord on Monday

Testing over the recently past weekend ended with BART making the decision to keep running shuttle trains between Pittsburg/Bay Point and North Concord stations, but trains will not be running regular service between the two stations Monday morning, officials said.

Last Saturday, BART conducted tests and announced that it would start running normal service, but that could not last long because of the persistent issue. The train system has been struggling to determine the source of voltage spikes that have been plaguing BART's East Bay line for weeks.

Concord firm collects more than 7,000 Jiffy boxes for local food banks

A Concord supplier of electrical wiring devices and lighting controls recently collected more than seven thousand boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix for local food banks.

Pass & Seymour, the supplier in question, collected the boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix during a Jiffy Challenge that it held for the first time this year.

During the event, the company gathered a total of 7,689 boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix, or four and a half pallets. After calling around to local food pantries, even organizer Sarah Bernhart said that Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix was the biggest need.

Concord shooting suspect remains in stable condition: police

A Concord man suspected of shooting an 8-year-old boy remained in stable condition at a hospital on Wednesday after being shot by police earlier this week, officials confirmed.

James Jarrard was taken to a trauma center in critical condition after Fairfield police officers shot him in a parking lot near the 3400 block of North Texas Street. The 32-year-old man was allegedly involved in a shooting three days ago that left a boy critically wounded.

Catellus withdraws from Concord Naval Weapons Station project race

Lennar Urban Corp. is now the only option for the development of the Concord Naval Weapons Station as Catellus Development has decided to withdraw from the race.

Concord City Council members on Monday voted 2-1 to disapprove Catellus' request for changing its term sheet and negotiating agreement. Instead, the council agreed to refund the land developer's deposit of $250,000.

Catellus said it had hoped that the council would see the merit in keeping it involved, but added that it would voluntarily withdraw from the selection process and give up any claims against the city of Concord.

Concord man wanted for shooting 8-year-old boy injured in shootout with police

The Concord man who was wanted by police for shooting an 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after suffering injuries during an officer-involved shooting in Fairfield on Monday, authorities confirmed.

James Jarrard, a 32-year-old resident of Concord, Jarrard, had been had been evading officers all weekend. He was wanted for allegedly gunning down a boy in a drive-by shooting in North Concord.

The officer-involved shooting occurred in the Lowe’s Home Improvement hardware store’s parking lot. The hardware store is situated in the 3400 block of North Texas.
